Contemporary Choral Works, Volume 1:
Works by Katherine Hoover, Paul Davies and David Lipten

The New York Virtuoso Singers,
Harold Rosenbaum, conductor

Katherine Hoover, composer, poet, and flutist, is the recipient of a National Endowment Composers Fellowship and many other awards and commissions, including the prestigious Academy of Arts and Letters 1994 Academy Composition Award and a National Flute Association Lifetime Achievement Award. Her work is published by Theodore Presser and Papagena Press. Visit her at http://katherinehoover.com/

She writes about her Requiem for the Innocent, "This Requiem was written as a response to the events of September 11, 2001. Finding Walt Whitman’s poetry was a powerful reminder that the tragedies of war and destruction can return; that the human impulse to reach out and help in times of sorrow is universal, and that the great Force that gives life persists and sustains us continually."

Paul Davies’ music has received many performances in the United States, Mexico, and Europe by distinguished ensembles such as the Kiev Philharmonic Orchestra, Nieuwe Ensemble, Amsterdam, la Camerata de la Universidad Autónoma de Baja California, the Kiev National Opera Chorus, Sonor Ensemble, duo runedako, and Ensemble Expose, London. Visit him at http://www.daviespaul.com/.

David Lipten’s music has been described as possessing "a strength and integrity...along with a deep [and]...rigorous musical lyricism.” The New York New Music Ensemble, Harvey Sollberger, conductor, the Chester Quartet, and the Bienen Contemporary Ensemble, Donald Nally, conductor, among others, have premiered his compositions.
