American Composer James Cohn's Homage Available for September 11 Commemorative Concerts

American Composer James Cohn's magnificent Homage is available for September 11 commemorative concerts and events.

The six-minute tone poem was composed in 1959, during the Cold War between the USA and the Soviet Union, so that there is a certain amount of darkness and tension in the music, and also some quotations from The Star Spangled Banner, which makes this work particularly appropriate for observances connected with September 11th.

Homage has been recorded by Vakhtang Jordania and the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra for the XLNT label (XLNT CD 18010) and is scored for 1(+pic)-1-1-altosax-1/1-1-1-0/timp-1perc and strings and is available from XLNT Music, who can be contacted at Jimusician@aol.com or 718-279-4139.

The composer is offering a discount on the rental fee (with no extra charges for repeat performances) for the set of orchestral parts so that the piece will be easily financially accessible to everyone who wants to perform it.

James Cohn has written solo, chamber, choral and orchestral works. He has been awarded a Queen Elisabeth of Belgium Prize for his Symphony No. 2 (premiered at Brussels) and an A.I.D.E.M. prize for his Symphony No. 4 (premiered in Florence at the Maggio Musicale). Paul Paray and the Detroit Symphony introduced the composer's Symphony No. 3 and Variations on "The Wayfaring Stranger". Commissions have come from Jon Manasse (for the Concerto No. 1 for Clarinet and Strings), Christopher Jepperson (for 3 Evocations [Clarinet Concerto No. 2]) and Jeffrey Silberschlag (for the Concerto for Trumpet and Strings. Visit his webpage at http://www.jamesarts.com/CohnBio0202.htm.

Mr. Cohn's orchestral works have been recorded in Europe by the Slovak National Radio Orchestra, (directed by Kirk Trevor and Vakhtang Jordania) and the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, (directed by Vakhtang Jordania), and will be issued on a series of four CDs on the XLNT label. The repertory includes his 8 symphonies, 4 concertos and various tone poems.
