Pianist Jeffrey Biegel To Perform Solo Piano Edition of Restored Original Manuscript of "Rhapsody in Blue" at New York's Bargemusic on December 2 & 3

Pianist Jeffrey Biegel To Perform Solo Piano Edition of Restored Original Manuscript of "Rhapsody in Blue" at New York's Bargemusic on December 2 & 3

The internationally renowned pianist Jeffrey Biegel will present two performances of the solo piano edition of the restored original manuscript of Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" on Thursday, December 2 and Friday, December 3, 7:30 PM each night at Bargemusic, Fulton Ferry Landing near the Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn, New York.

Mr. Biegel will also present the Liszt solo-piano arrangement of Beethoven's Symphony No. 5, as well as Grieg's Holberg Suite.

Until Warner Bros. published Dr. Alicia Zizzo's Annotated Rhapsody in Blue in restored original manuscript solo piano and orchestral editions, no other score existed to allow the pianist an authentic range of interpretive options. Through Dr. Zizzo's work with the Library of Congress and the Gershwin Estate, re-inserting lost passages and restoring original chords, phrases and other markings, Gershwin's highly distinctive style reveals itself as it was originally intended. You can read much more about this edition at http://www.jamesarts.com/AZRHAPNOTE.htm and http://www.jamesarts.com/zizzo/AZ_GershwinBlue.htm. Warner Bros has also published Dr. Zizzo's solo piano edition's of Gershwin's Seven Preludes, Blue Monday, Lullaby and the "I Got Rhythm" Variations.

Tickets for the December 2 and 3 concerts are $35, with discounts for students and seniors. For tickets or more information, please contact Bargemusic at 718-624-2083 or 718-624-4061 or visit them online at http://www.bargemusic.org/.

Referred to by Leonard Bernstein as "a splendid musician and a brilliant performer," pianist Jeffrey Biegel performed the American premiere of the fully restored original 1924 manuscript of George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue with the Boston Pops at Symphony Hall in Boston. He has subsequently performed this piece with orchestras across the U.S. and in Germany. He has also presented performances from Maine to California of Ellen Taaffe Zwilich's Millennium Fantasy for piano and orchestra, a work he commissioned in collaboration with 26 American orchestras and which was Premiered in September of 2000 with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Jesus Lopez-Cobos conducting.
