The Americas Vocal Ensemble Presents "Music and Poetry from Latin America" at St. Peter s Church in Manhattan
Tuesday, February 15 at 8:00 PM

The Americas Vocal Ensemble, Nelly Vuksic, Music Director, will present a very special concert titled "Music and Poetry from Latin America", on Tuesday, February 15 at 8:00 PM at St. Peter's Church, 619 Lexington Avenue in the Citicorp Center, Manhattan.

This concert will present selections reflecting the richness of the Latin American heritage of music and poetry together. The program will include great poetry by Pablo Neruda, Jorge Luis Borges, Gabriela Mistral, Octavio Paz, Mario Benedetti and others, set to choral and solo songs by such outstanding composers as Carlos Guastavino, Alberto Ginastera, Max Lifchitz, Carlos Rausch, Jerome Goodman, Damon Lee, Gunhild Glass, Yvette Souviron and Luis Antonio Escobar. The Concert will feature commentaries by pianist Cesar Vuksic about a number of the selections.

The Americas Vocal Ensemble was founded by its Director Nelly Vuksic as a professional chamber group whose mission is to foster understanding among the people of the Americas and to preserve the musical and cultural richness of the diverse countries of North and South America. It brings to its audiences a most enjoyable and rarely performed repertory which encompasses the whole range of the music of the Americas, from the colonial period to contemporary times, through concerts, educational programs and recordings.

The Americas Vocal Ensemble made its debut at New York's Americas Society in 1982, and has performed throughout the northeast U.S. and South America. They present unique and innovative programs and have performed premieres of more than 100 contemporary works, including compositions by leading North and South American composers. AVE has been heard on National Public Radio, many New York stations and the Voice of America. They have also appeared on New York Public Television and the Hispanic Information and Telecommunications TV Network. Their latest CD "Canticas y Madrigales" has been recorded for 4Tay Records, and is available at http://www.classicalcds.net.
