NEW RECORDING PROJECTS
Wallach songs are being compiled and mastered for a projected CD series of Wallach songs: Five new songs were recorded this December by soprano Janice Hall and pianist Eric Sedgewick. Look at Joelle's website to hear them newly posted as MP3's.
The American Chamber Ensemble and Joelle Wallach have begun planning brand-new recordings of the Wallach's works the ACE has premiered over 3 decades of this performer/composer collaboration. When composers and performers feel an affinity, they often stimulate and challenge one another. Thus it has been for Joelle Wallach and the American Chamber Ensemble, Naomi Drucker and Blanche Abram, directors, since the early '80's when they first premiered Wallach's woodwind works.
...AND DON'T FORGET THE EXISTING CDS
A critically acclaimed CD of Wallach's works for strings is available on the Capstone label (CPS-8689):
Shadow, Sighs and Songs of Longing:
This exquisite recording features performances by the Meridian Quartet, National Slovak Radio Orchestra, Joel Suben, conductor and Robert DeMaine, cello soloist in Wallach's String Quartet (1986), String Quartet (1995), String Quartet (1999) and Shadow, Sighs and Songs of Longing - a concerto for cello and orchestra.
American Record Guide wrote of this CD, "A worthy collection....The music is emotional and dramatically cogent... Shadows, Sighs, and Songs of Longing is a 16-minute cello concerto of much warmth and lyricism." and called Joelle Wallach "a composer of considerable charm and serious intent." More about this CD at http://www.capstonerecords.org/CPS-8689.html.
Pianist Jeffrey Jacob has recorded Wallach's dramatic Voices of the Iron Harp as part of his Contemporary Eclectic Music for the Piano, Volume 7 series for New Ariel Recordings.
