Concert Features Mozart and Schumann Selections From 1965 Concert and Music by Haskell Small and Benjamin Lees The American Chamber Ensemble will present a very special Gala 40th Anniversary Concert on Sunday, March 20, 2005, at 3 p.m. when the Music Department of Hofstra University presents ACE at the University's Monroe Lecture Center Theater on California Avenue in Hempstead. Repertoire for this concert will include MozartŐs Quintet for clarinet and strings in A Major, K. 581 and SchumannŐs Quintet for piano and strings, both of which were performed at the American Chamber EnsembleŐs first concert on January 22, 1965. Other works to be performed will be Haskell SmallŐs Twelve Snippets for flute, clarinet, cello and piano and the New York Premiere of Benjamin LeesŐ Tapestry for flute, clarinet, cello and piano. This 40th Anniversary work was jointly commissioned by ACE, Pacific Serenades of California, the Contemporary Chamber Players of Utah, and the Mallarme Chamber Ensemble of North Carolina and celebrates the 2005 Festival of Long Island Composers. This concert will also celebrate the new release of ACEŐs new Elysium CD, The American Chamber Ensemble Plays Peter Schickele. The American Chamber Ensemble explores the great chamber music literature for clarinet and piano in combination with strings, woodwinds and voice and presents performances featuring world-class artists. ACE consists of the finest freelance musicians in the New York area and has been cited by critics for their superb presentations of chamber masterworks.
