Conductor Maksim Kuzin to Present Festival of Contemporary Music on March 23 in Kiev, Ukraine

Ukrainian conductor Maksim Kuzin will lead the Ricochet New Music Ensemble in "Premieres of the Season" - a Festival of Contemporary Music presented on Thursday, March 23, 2006 - 4 PM at the Concert Hall of the National Academy of Sciences in Kiev, Ukraine.

Works to be presented include four pieces by Ukrainian composers: Sergiy Pilyutikov's Pastels" on lyrics by P. Tychyna for soprano solo and string quartet, Leonid Hrabovsky's "Tihaya" for oboe and piano, "Awakening" for chamber ensemble by Y. Hnatovskaya and S. Krutikov's Three arias for inner voice" on lyrics by J. Kits for corno solo, violin, cello and piano, along with Olivier Messiaen's 4 songs from the cycle "Poemes pour Mi" for soprano and piano and Pierre Boulez' "Derive" for chamber ensemble. These composers reflect a wonderful range of international music and were chosen by Mr. Kuzin for this diversity.

Performers will be members of the Ricochet New Music Ensemble led by Maestro Kuzin, who is also the presenter and curator of this concert.

The Ricochet New Music Ensemble is planning a Fall 2006 tour of several Ukrainian cities performing music of Dutch composers.

Maksim Kuzin was selected by Symphony Magazine as one of their 2005 Emerging Artists. He is founder, Artistic Director, and Principal Conductor of the Youth Musical Theatre "Maxima" in Ukraine, Staff Conductor of the Kiev State Academic Operetta Theatre and Music Director of the Ricochet New Music Ensemble. He received a Summer 2004 appointment as Assistant Conductor for the Hot Springs Music Festival in Arkansas and is a frequent conductor of contemporary music concerts at Ukrainian international festivals such as "Kiev Musik-Fest", "Youth Art Forum" and "Premieres of The Season."
