Violinist Anastasia Khitruk will perform with the renowned Omega Ensemble as part of a special cocktail party and concert on Tuesday, November 14 - 6:00 PM at the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland, 233 Madison Ave. at 37th Street in New York City. Selections on the program include Schumann's Fantasiestucke, Op. 73, Saint Saens' Sonata for Clarinet and Piano, Handel-Halvorsen Passacaglia and Beethoven's Sonata No. 7 in C Minor, Op. 30 No. 2. Other performers include pianist and Ensemble Founder Doris Konig, clarinetist Jean Kopperud and cellist Clancy Newman. Tickets for the November 14 cocktail party and concert are $50. Omega seeks to promote this treasured musical genre by presenting a series of free and modestly priced concerts. In addition, Omega uses its concerts as a way to introduce extraordinary young artists to the public and has presented over 120 new artists to date. Omega engages in charitable activities by playing a series of free "Gift to the City" concerts at Christ and St. Stephens Church in New York City. Omega also performs two other concert series throughout the calendar year. After immigrating to the United States, Ms. Khitruk continued the violin studies she had begun at Moscow's Central Music School. Her talent was immediately recognized when she made her orchestral debut at the age of eight. Since then, she has appeared in concert and recital worldwide, including numerous performances in Boston, Los Angeles, New York, Aspen, London, Geneva, Adelaide, Sofia, Paris, and Moscow -- where Katerina Birukova of Vremya wrote: "She sparkles with brilliant violin playing." Ms. Khitruk has appeared on television and radio in England, Russia, Germany, the United States, and Australia. Her concert series in Bulgaria, during the prestigious Sofia Music Weeks, was televised and greeted with enthusiasm. In his review of her performance of the Shostakovich Concerto No. 1 at the Adelaide Festival for Real Time, Chris Reid declared, "Anastasia Khitruk is masterful!" She has been a prizewinner at numerous competitions in the U.S. and internationally, including the Paganini International Violin Competition. An enthusiastic champion of modern music, Ms. Khitruk is often chosen to premiere works of young composers.
