String Quartets by Beth Anderson To Be Performed by The Euphonia Quartet in Sao Paulo, Brazil on November 18

String Quartets by American composer Beth Anderson will be presented by the renowned Euphonia Quartet on Saturday, November 18 - 6:30 PM at the Teatro Cultura Inglesa, located at Rua Madre Cabrini 413 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Ms. Anderson's Pennyroyal Swale and Rosemary Swale will be performed as part of this "Cultura aos Sábados" concert, along with other contemporary works by Dominique Dupraz and Dafydd Bullock. The Euphonia Quartet consists of Paula Souza Lima and Cristina Rapp, violins, Tatiana Paciello, viola and Guilherme Faria, violoncello.

Tickets for this concert are R$ 10.00. For reservations and information, please call 3845-1514 or visit http://www.intervogue.com/musicalis/programacao.htm.

Pennyroyal Swale combines folk-related vernacular music with "classically" developed techniques in an open, somewhat repetitive form. The work is dedicated to Mr. James Roy, the late head of Concert Music at BMI. Rosemary Swale is dedicated to Rosalie Calabrese who ran American Composers Alliance for many years. Both works have been recorded by the Rubio Quartet for the all-Beth Anderson CD Swales and Angels (New World Records).

Beth Anderson's music has been described as having "a refreshing simplicity without naiveté" and as - "deeply felt, direct, and yes, beautiful" and "charming and deeply felt to the point of romanticism." Her latest CDs are a new recording by Nancy Boston of September Swale as part of American Women: Modern Voices in Piano Music and Quilt Music (Albany Records), a CD of chamber music for smaller ensembles. An essay by Ms. Anderson about her music for American Music Center's NewMusicBox web magazine can be read at http://www.newmusicbox.org/page.nmbx?id=53hf02.
