UPCOMING DILLON FESTIVAL AT EASTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY

In February 2007, Eastern Michigan University will host a festival of music by Lawrence Dillon, three successive evenings of concerts featuring works that span the composer's entire creative output, from his student days to the present. Dillon will be honored as a special guest of the University, which is celebrating its 150th year. The compositions featured on the three concerts include solo and chamber works, a piece for wind ensemble and music for orchestra:

  • Façade (1983) for violin and piano
  • Dunigan Variations (1991) for four flutes
  • Furies and Muses (1997) for bassoon and string quartet
  • Amadeus ex machina (2001) for orchestra
  • Chicane (2002) for solo piano
  • Big Brothers (2004) for saxophones, vibe and piano
  • Blown Away (2005) for wind ensemble

At the convocation of the festival, Dillon will give a lecture on his music, titled "Furies and Muses: Composing in the Twenty-first Century." Visit the University here.

PRESERVING THE MUSIC FOR THE FUTURE
To date, Lawrence Dillon has released just one CD of his music, Chamber Music of Lawrence Dillon, an Albany Records disk that featured works from 1996-1998. Jeffrey James Arts Consulting is currently in the process of raising funds for two more CDs: one that surveys Dillon's chamber works from the early 21st century, and one that features his vocal works. Each disk should cost in the neighborhood of $20,000 to produce. If you would like to find out how you can help underwrite these recordings, please contact Jeffrey James Arts Consulting at jamesarts@worldnet.att.net.
