November 6 at Hofstra University - Concert Features Music by Swack, Brahms and Ludwig Spohr The American Chamber Ensemble's "Honoring Long Island Composer Irwin Swack" concert will take place on Sunday, November 6, 2005, at 3 p.m. when the Music Department of Hofstra University presents ACE at the University's Monroe Lecture Center Theater on California Avenue in Hempstead. This concert will continue the Ensemble's 40th Anniversary celebration. Repertoire for this concert will be Irwin Swack's Allegro for four clarinets and Profiles for violin, clarinet and cello, along with Ludwig Spohr's Six Songs for soprano, clarinet and piano and Brahms' Sonata in e minor for cello and piano and Quartet No. 1 in g minor for piano and strings. The Irwin Swack performances will celebrate the 2005 Festival of Long Island Composers. Tickets for the November 6 concert are available at the Hofstra University Box Office for $10 ($8 senior citizens 65+ and non-Hofstra students). One free ticket with current Hofstra Card. Performers for this concert will be the Directors of the American Chamber Ensemble, pianist Blanche Abram and clarinetist Naomi Drucker, who will be joined by pianist Marilyn Sherman Lehman, violinists Eriko Sato and Deborah Wong, violist Lois Martin, and cellist Chris Finckel. Special guest artists will be clarinetists Mindy Dragovich and Amy Shapiro, bass clarinetist Jess Gross and soprano Tammy Hensrud. The American Chamber Ensemble explores the great chamber music literature for clarinet and piano in combination with strings, woodwinds and voice and presents performances featuring world-class artists. ACE consists of the finest freelance musicians in the New York area and has been cited by critics for their superb presentations of chamber masterworks.
