Steven R. Gerber's Duet for Solo Clarinet will be presented by clarinetist Peter Furniss on Wednesday, October 24 7:30 PM at The Warehouse, 13 Theed Street in London, England.
The 7-minute Duet was written in 2005 and was given its World Premiere in July, 2006 by Alex Fiterstein at Bargemusic in Brooklyn, NY.
This concert will celebrate the recent Clarinet Classics release, Time Pieces, 60 years of American music for clarinet and piano (CC0054). Works from the CD by Leonard Bernstein, James Cohn, Richard Dudas and Michael Kaulkin will be presented along with the Gerber and a new work by Arlene Sierra. Mr. Furniss will be accompanied by pianist David Leiher Jones.

Steven R. Gerber's music has gained international attention as a result of three CD releases (on Chandos, Koch and Arabesque), featuring several of his major orchestral works, including the Symphony No. 1, Clarinet, Viola, Violin and Cello concertos and Spirituals for Orchestra. Of the Symphony No. 1, Evening Moscow wrote, "Gerber could serve as an example of American musical professionalism ... he stands out with the highest of temperaments and musical taste." Mr. Gerber has written for a number of fine soloists including Jon Manasse for the clarinet concerto, Yuri Bashmet for the viola concerto, Kurt Nikkanen for the violin concerto and Carter Brey for the cello concerto. His work has been performed by groups such as the Louisville Orchestra, Knoxville Chamber Orchestra, the Fine Arts Quartet, the National Chamber Orchestra and the Russian Philharmonic.
